PPWR
New rules - new opportunities for the packaging of the future
At Optimum Group Nordic, we help our customers navigate the new requirements that come with the PPWR legislation (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation). This comprehensive EU regulation aims to reduce the environmental impact from packaging and ensure a circular packaging flow by 2050.
From requirements for "Design for Recycling" to recyclable materials, the PPWR places stricter demands on manufacturers, importers, and distributors alike. We are here to help you understand what this means for your business and how you can best prepare.
Download our PPWR guide and get a clear overview of the new PPWR requirements. Here, we explain what the regulation means for your business, what deadlines and requirements you need to be aware of, and how you can adapt your packaging to the new rules.
From October 1, 2025, the extended producer responsibility (EPR) also applies to labels – as an integrated part of the packaging. This means that the label's material, adhesive, and printing inks must be assessed in relation to the packaging's main component in order to achieve classification in the green category.
At Optimum Group Nordic, we advise on how to choose labels that meet the requirements and support your sustainability goals – regardless of whether your packaging is made of plastic, glass, paper, or metal.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) – What Does it Mean for Labels?
What does PPWR mean for you?
Design for Recycling
From 2030, your packaging must be designed for recycling and meet strict requirements to promote sustainability. This requires smarter material choices and a shift to more environmentally friendly solutions.
Less waste, more recycling
PPWR implies requirements for reduced packaging volume and increased use of recycled materials. This offers the opportunity to optimize your packaging while reducing environmental impact.
Uniform rules across the EU
With common guidelines throughout the EU, it becomes easier for you to navigate the rules and operate across borders.
